The Project concerns on the design of a four-star hotel complex with a capacity of 82beds on a site whose area is 2.235m2.The building is placed near the center of the site, and at 25 degrees to the axis of Kifissias Avenue, thus maximizing the number of rooms of the main façade, and at the same timeimproving the orientation of the rooms. The building consists of two (2) basements, a ground floor and four (4) floors above, excluding the terrace.
The principal goal of the scheme is the useof a basic grid that is determined by the logic of pre-fabrication and at the same time serves the organizational pattern of the rooms on all levels. The ground floor features the communal activities of the building while the upper floors include all the rooms and their supportive elements.
From a morphological point of view, it is the intention of the team to design a simple building, whose character derives from the play of rhythm, scale, linear arrangement and the relationship between solids and voids.
The principal mass of the building is of a rectangular shape, while the ground floor is indented, thus generating an arcade that runs along the main façade.Furthermore, this indentation gives the impression that the building rests upon a series of free-standing walls, further accentuating the lightness of the ground floor plinth. To conclude, structural frames defining the openings of the main façade are introduced to address the resultant perceived tension created by the relationship of its height and length.
The choice of aluminum sheet panels to dress the facade generates a 40cm. thick veneer that gives the observer the impression of a metallic screen that ‘floats’ above the ground floor, and whose overall dimensions exceed those of the actual building elevation.
